Exhibit
The Musée du Nouveau Monde in La Rochelle, in partnership with the ANR AMERICA 2026 program, is organizing an exhibition entitled “The French and the Birth of the United States” (June 19–November 16, 2026).
Through a rich selection of paintings, engravings, objects, books, maps, and manuscripts, this exhibition highlights the many facets of the reception of the American Revolution in France, from the late eighteenth century to the early nineteenth century. While the Franco-American alliance inspired numerous representations glorifying France and Louis XVI, the creation of a new political model, the emergence of new political leaders, and the upheavals of the Atlantic world brought about by the colonial revolt also left a lasting impression.
