Dear all,
We were preparing this issue of our newsletter only a few days before the election in the
United States, and we hope it reaches you now safe and sound.
Event of the Month
AMERICA 2026 second ANR-funded event: American Politics and the Memory of the Revolution (18th-21st Centuries)
Date: Nov. 12-13, 2024
Location: Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès (Toulouse, France)
This conference aims to add a more contemporary perspective to the ANR-funded research project at the basis of the AMERICA 2026 community. Its ambition is to explore the many echoes of the Revolution in today’s political and intellectual debates in the US. Workshops will address such topics as the commemorations of the Revolution through the centuries, the contemporary historiographical debates about the meaning of 1776, the roles played by museums, academics and social networks in the popular memory of the Revolution, and the memory of French figures like Lafayette and Rochambeau in the relationships between France and the US in
the 21st century,
