Archives of Revolution : A Conference About How We Make the Past

The conference Archives of Revolution : A Conference About How We Make the Past started off with a keynote address by Manuel Covo (UCSB) and Christopher Hodson (BYU) on Jacques Periès’s diary during the Haitian Revolution, entitled “The Treasurer’s Tale: A Lost Account of War, White Supremacy, and Black Radicalism in the Haitian Revolution.” AMERICA2026 put together a panel on archives “on both sides of the Atlantic”. While Virginie Adane (Nantes U) presented the EPSAR (European Printed Sources on the American Revolution) database project that is at the heart of our program, Iris de Rode (Mount Vernon), Leila Tnainchi (U Franche Comté) and Irma Toti (U Paris 8) analyzed how overlooked archival material available in European repositories can challenge how we frame the American Revolution.
