A conference put together by the late Trevor Burnard, aiming to connect the American Revolution to the history of British imperialism in order to “demonstrate that British policy towards America in the 1760s and 1770s was neither exceptional nor malicious but came out of a parallel set of initiatives throughout the British Empire”. The conference included a keynote address by Professor Stephen Conway and a special AMERICA2026 roundtable dedicated to “the American Revolution in a European Context”. After Virginie Adane (Nantes U) presented the program, Volker Depkat (Regensburg), Susanne Lachenicht (Bayreuth) and Eric Schnakenbourg (Nantes U) opened the conversation on imperialism to French and German perspectives.
